Semi-Black Australian Opal Belemnite Fossil 17.19cts – Queensland, Australia
A stunning semi-black opalized belemnite fossil, professionally polished to reveal vivid colour play against a dark body tone. The dark background makes the colours pop with exceptional brilliance — a highly prized characteristic in Australian opal. At 35mm long, this is a substantial specimen that would make a gorgeous pendant once set. A genuine piece of prehistoric natural history, over 100 million years old.
Belemnites were marine animals closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. They had a squid-like body with a hard internal skeleton — the bullet-shaped rostrum — which is the part preserved as fossil. They lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and became extinct around the same time as the dinosaurs.

from 13 reviewsEverything I've purchased from Nicole has been excellent. Every Opal I've cut from Opal Essence has been cuttable. The prices are more than fair and I'd highly recommend shopping here.
The stone is beautiful and just as shown on website. Working with Nichole at Opalessence is always a pleasure. There is no one better in the business.
I love everything about these two wonderful opal doublets, from their stunning colours, to their pocket friendly price, as well as the help that I got from the vendor, in helping me find the stones (plus two pairs (one pair of 5mm & one pair of 6mm rounds, of triplets which are not in this order) I needed for a project that I have had in mind for a year or so.
I love this boulder opal, because I see a Manx cat blowing out a plume of smoke, a rat sitting by the cat’s back leg, and a bird flying, all of which are in stunning colours, which I got for just $79(us), which is just £62.5 plus $10 for postage, and I have immediately put it in pride of place alongside a Belemnite opal, which I love just as much. And I have had excellent experience with this vendor, who has given me lots of advice on top of all of the good service.
I love everything that I have bought from this company, and they have been very helpful and supportive to someone who has just started to learn about polishing opals, so I’m more than happy to suggest that if you are after opals, both in the rough and fully polished, then you should definitely look at their stock, because I am sure that you will love their stock as much as their prices.

This beautiful piece, is partially finished, and it offers the chance of being cut into thinner slices, which offers lots of possibilities for me, and, on top of the competitive prices, the service is as fast as possible, which means that I am looking forward to finding more stones that I want to have, because I know that I can trust them.
This is a stunning stone, and I am already thinking about what I am going to do with it, and because of the service and the prices, I am going to be buying more stones from this vendor asap.
This is a gorgeous piece, which was a great price, because it needs some more work, but that means that it will give me a chance to make what I want out of it. And the seller sent me some potch for me to practice on too, which is very kind of them, and I am looking forward to seeing some more stones that I want from them, because they are true to their word, which is important in this day and age.
