Australian Opal Belemnite Fossil 6.87cts – Queensland, Australia

A stunning opalized belemnite fossil displaying beautiful bright multicolours — a truly spectacular little specimen from over 100 million years ago. This belemnite would make a gorgeous pendant once set, combining the rarity of a prehistoric fossil with the brilliance of genuine Australian opal. A one-of-a-kind piece of natural history.

Belemnites were marine animals closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. They had a squid-like body with a hard internal skeleton — the bullet-shaped rostrum — which is the part preserved as fossil. They lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and became extinct around the same time as the dinosaurs.
