Notes

Belemnites were marine animals — relatives of modern squid and cuttlefish — that lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, becoming extinct alongside the dinosaurs approximately 66 million years ago. The bullet-shaped rostrum (internal skeleton) is the part preserved as a fossil. When found at Coober Pedy, these rostra have been replaced by precious opal over millions of years, creating one of nature’s most extraordinary gemstone curiosities. Ethically sourced from Coober Pedy, South Australia.
