About Opal Belemnites

Belemnites were marine animals — closest relatives of the modern squid and cuttlefish — that lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, approximately 100–250 million years ago. They became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period, around the same time as the dinosaurs. Over millions of years, the hard internal rostrum (the bullet-shaped skeleton in the animal's tail) was replaced by precious opal, creating one of nature's most extraordinary fossils.

This belemnite would make a stunning pendant or a prized addition to any opal or fossil collection.

Notes

Ethically sourced from Australia. Each opal belemnite is a unique natural specimen — colours and patterns will vary.
