Australian Opal Belemnite 58cts - Cretaceous Fossil Specimen 65mm

A remarkable piece of natural history — this genuine Australian opal belemnite dates back approximately 100 million years to the Cretaceous Period, when belemnites (ancient relatives of squid and cuttlefish) roamed the world's oceans. Over millennia, the organic material was replaced by precious opal, creating a one-of-a-kind collector's specimen with stunning play-of-colour.

Currently photographed wet to show its full colour potential — this belemnite will be even more spectacular once polished, and would make a magnificent pendant or display piece. Some natural fracture lines are present, as expected in fossil material of this age.
