Australian Opal Belemnite Fossil 30.1cts – Queensland, Australia

A remarkable opalized belemnite fossil from Queensland, Australia — a creature that swam ancient seas over 100 million years ago during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This high-quality specimen has been professionally polished to reveal the opal within, and would make a stunning pendant once set. A truly one-of-a-kind piece of natural history with genuine play-of-colour.

Belemnites were marine animals closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. They had a squid-like body with a hard internal skeleton — the bullet-shaped rostrum — which is the part preserved as fossil. They became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period, around the same time as the dinosaurs.
