Australian Opal Belemnite Fossil 10.59cts – Queensland, Australia

A beautiful opalized belemnite fossil from Queensland, Australia — a creature that swam ancient seas over 100 million years ago. Chunky and well-proportioned, this specimen would make a beautiful pendant once set. A genuine piece of prehistoric natural history with the added wonder of Australian opal.

Belemnites were marine animals closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. They had a squid-like body with a hard internal skeleton — the bullet-shaped rostrum — which is the part preserved as fossil. They lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and became extinct around the same time as the dinosaurs.
